When Vice President Joe Biden called me on the picket line during our historic 2019 teachers strike, one of the first things he said to me and some of our brave educators was, “Teaching is not what you do; it’s who you are.”

The recognition of that fact, and the value of our work, is what separates VP Biden and Sen. Kamala Harris from Donald Trump, Betsy DeVos and an administration that has thrown school districts nationwide into chaos with its mismanagment of the COVID-19 pandemic.

VP Biden stands on a debate stage and calls for more funding for our schools, better ventilated buildings, smaller class sizes and increased educator staffing.

Trump stands on stage at superspreader events and calls for schools to reopen amidst a surge in positive COVID-19 cases, and a U.S. death toll nearing 250,000.

We are clear in our goals: Defeat Donald Trump, win a Fair Tax and elect the education champions and fighters we need — at all levels. That’s not just VP Biden and Sen. Harris, but Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx, incumbent State Sen. Robert Martwick (10th), immigration rights activist, State Sen. Celina Villanueva (11th), firefighter Michelle Darbo for state representative in the 20th District and many others.

You can early vote now through Nov. 3 in all 50 wards and at the Loop Super Site, and also return your signed and sealed Vote By Mail ballot return envelope at secured drop boxes available at every early voting site (without waiting in line). So please cast your ballot between now and Election Day to take an important step in fighting for the funding, the policies and the leadership our schools deserve.
