CTU and CPS have agreed to two new Memorandums of Understanding that will improve substitute teacher coverage. One relates to the number of days retirees can substitute teach and the other provides new pay provisions to help cover parental leaves under the new 12-week leave policy.
As a result of our advocacy, today CPS has confirmed and posted to Frontline that the November monthly incentive for guest teachers ($420 or $1000) will pay out for all that are eligible this Friday, December 23.

The Union has won an appeal of an IDEAS ruling that found PSRPs whos chose to spread out their 10 month’s of wages over 12 months ineligible for unemployment. Also, please remember teacher assistants and SECAs are only allowed to be used as substitutes for up to 60 minutes and only in the case of a temporary emergency.
Last week, Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed two CTU-sponsored bills into law that will help to alleviate substitute teacher shortages and improve the induction of new teachers into the profession.
The CTU is working to address the substitute teacher shortage through two bills – HB 2968, introduced by State Rep. Will Davis (30th District), and SB 1584, introduced by State Senator Omar Aquino (2nd District).
