Last night, the House of Delegates held its first meeting of the new year, and delegates dug into a number of important issues that we want to summarize for members. Every other month, the CTU honors two substitutes doing the essential work to keep schools running in the face of staffing shortages and teacher absences. The next round of awards will be issued at the December 7 House of Delegates, so submit a nomination today!
This resolution calls for the Union to emphasize recruitment of new educators by members at all levels of the Union. The House of Delegates overwhelmingly ratified the resolution at its December 8, 2021 monthly meeting.
Seven members were nominated for Functional Vice President of Elementary School Teachers at the May 5, 2021 House of Delegates meeting. At the June 2, 2021 House of Delegates meeting, all voting delegates who are members of the Elementary School Teachers functional group may vote for three candidates to fill three Functional Vice President of Elementary School Teachers vacancies on the CTU executive board.
These procedures for the fund to benefit educators who suffered financial hardship due to retaliation for exercising their right to work safely and remotely were approved by the House of Delegates at its March 3, 2021 meeting.
The terms of office of current delegates will end on January 31, 2021. This means that all school delegates as well as other active member delegates, such as PSRP delegates, clinician delegates, etc. will need to conduct remote elections in their functional groups in order to be seated at the February House of Delegates meeting on February 3, 2021.
At the November 4, 2020, House of Delegates meeting, all delegates in the High School Teachers functional group will vote between David Arredondo and Michael Smith to fill the one High School Teachers Functional Vice President vacancy on the Executive Board.
CTU delegates were sent this message with the goal of ensuring that organizing continues, even as members work remotely.
