CTU representatives on our healthcare Labor Management Cooperation Committee met in late March and April. We discussed several health care issues brought to our attention by members, as well as new benefits our members can expect.
Open enrollment for health insurance and other benefits that members have fought for over the years, including in the 2019 strike, will begin on October 24. You will have two weeks to make your choices, with enrollment closing on November 4.
We’re forwarding it to you just to make sure you’re aware that CPS’ open enrollment window is open, so if you’ve been wanting to make any changes to your health insurance coverage, now is the time to act!

Teachers have been using this week to work with their principal on a remote learning strategy and will be paid through PHE. Members will also be paid their earned vacation pay for Spring Break, April 6-10. Upon returning from vacation, members will begin teleworking.

Each January, for the past several years, some members have felt surprise and confusion at the amount they are charged for medications. Although at first glance this appears to be a change in price, it’s actually just the annual prescription deductible, which goes into effect each January.
Today, rank and file members of our bargaining team took time out from teaching, left the students they care for and came to bargaining ready to seriously discuss the health care provisions for our contract with the Board.
