Yesterday, Mayor Lightfoot admitted disappointment in the lack of testing and contact tracing to start the 2021-2022 school year, despite the fact that, 1) school safety is her responsibility, and 2) students, families and educators have been sounding alarms about safety in our schools since before the year began.
Not only should “I told you so” be unnecessary, but it’s also exhausting. Everyone told her schools weren’t safe.
Headlines told her schools weren’t safe.
City Council and General Assembly members told her schools weren’t safe.
Parents and families told her schools weren’t safe.
She wouldn’t listen.
Join us today at 5 p.m. for our citywide Speakout for Safety, and learn from educators, families and students what’s really taking place in our schools and in negotiations with the district. These voices deserve to be heard right now.
And not weeks from now, when it may be too late.
