The CTU House of Delegates last night voted overwhelmingly to authorize a Sept. 24-26 strike vote as we continue to campaign for a fair contract for district-run public schools.
Tomorrow, we need members to reach out to parents at their schools for one-on-one conversations about contract proposals that highlight critical needs for you and your school community. That community includes members of SEIU Local 73—the union representing CPS SECAs, custodians, bus aides and security officers—whose members have been without a contract for more than a year and authorized their own strike with a 97 percent vote in July.
Click here to download a copy of the parent flyer, which you can use in talking to parents and asking for their support. The Union has distributed tens of thousands of flyers and picket signs for tomorrow to draw attention to our contract fight.
And because it’s also Solidarity Friday, you can take pictures with your school families to share in your social media. Send photos to us as well at communications@ctulocal1.org and we’ll share on CTU Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!
Be sure to identify particularly supportive parents for follow up later, and sign up for Saturday’s Contract Action Team training. And as always, we encourage all teachers, clinicians and PSRPs to wear your union red tomorrow and every Friday. Our message continues to rise above the fray, and Solidarity Friday is a way to show the district that we are united and ready to fight for the schools Chicago’s students deserve!
