On December 5, the Chicago Board of Education may approve as many as three (3) new charter proposals. Charter school expansion has harmed Chicago schools. Charters add expensive bureaucracy that diverts funding away from classrooms. Charter expansion also spreads CPS resources thin. It creates several “tiers” of teacher and staff, as well, in an effort to undermine fairness, transparency and solidarity among educators.
