The New Year holiday is grounded in reflection and hope. As a union of dedicated rank and file members, we’ve made enormous strides in the effort to bring public school students the educations they deserve and yet we still have further go.
We’ve put critical issues on the map, from the demand for an elected, representative school board to full funding for special education services for our most vulnerable students.
And we’ve pushed back against the tide of austerity and forced fundamental issues of equity and fairness to the forefront in electoral and political contests across the state.
This fall our members instigated and won the nation’s first strike against a private charter operator.
We do this together, as educational professionals, allies of public education, and individuals committed to building a more fair and just city, state and nation.
May your New Year be filled with the joy that comes from your commitment to the greater good, the yearning we all share for peace with justice, and the fortitude to build a better world.
With love and unity,
