Educators at Instituto del Progreso Latino vote unanimously to authorize strike

CTU members at Instituto del Progreso Latino have voted unanimously to authorize a strike. The strike vote comes as charter management continues to stall at the barganing table, even though its pocketing millions in bogus fees from its two schools. Read more.

Stand up for housing with BCH campaign

Some 60,000 Chicagoans lack secure housing. Among the homeless, more than 20,000 are our students. On Tuesday, November 7, 2023, City Council members voted Yes to the Bring Chicago Home ordinance, so a referendum will appear on the March ballot asking Chicagoans if we want a dedicated revenue stream to serve Chicago’s unhoused population. Bilingual/ESL endorsement cohort, IEP interpreter stipend, and member meeting for teachers of bilingual students

We’ve got a round up of important news for our bilingual members, including a Dec. 15 deadline to submit your application for the upcoming bilingual/ESL endorsement cohort, the Jan. 19 IEP interpreter stipend deadline, and an important all-member meeting on bilingual education Dec. 18. Read more.

CPS Facilities Planning Round Tables

On December 12 at 5:30 p.m. CPS will hold its first Educational Facilities Master Plan Round Table specifically for the South Side planning area. Many of our schools are in buildings over a century old, needing major upgrades or replacement to utilize modern HVAC systems. You can make your voice heard at these events. CPS will hold at least two of these round tables per week through February, with one session in each of the 16 geographic areas CPS identified. IFT survey: make your voice heard

The IFT’s PreK-12 Constituency Council needs our help to advocate for working conditions and student learning conditions that will encourage the retention of public educators and attract people to education-related professions in Illinois. Take this quick four-question IFT survey.


Dec. 7: Special education Know Your Rights Training

Questions about special ed in CPS? This training will focus on using our contract to enforce SPED policy and advocate for our students and their educators. Join us virtually Dec. 7, at 5 p.m. Register for the training.

Dec. 8 deadline: Check your sports stipend information!

Coaches, Athletic Directors and Sports Liaisons will split up millions of dollars in contractual stipends. Make sure you get your share! The final amount of each member’s stipend will be determined when we validate the list of coaches from last school year. So, go to to make sure all your coaching, AD and liaison work is credited in our list. The deadline is Dec. 8 to let us know if we are missing your work, so check your listing now!

Dec. 11: Meeting for members in positions new to the CTU

Since 2015, we’ve had a growing list of CPS positions that are new additions to the CTU, such as Youth Interventions Specialists, Instructional Support Leaders, Resident Teachers and more. We are hosting a meeting at CTU to get input and involvement from CTU members working in these positions for the 2024 contract. Members of these groups should join us at the CTU Center on Dec. 11, at 5 p.m. Learn more and register for the meeting.
