CHICAGO, April 14, 2021—The Chicago Teachers Union will hold a press conference at 7:00 a.m. TODAY, Thursday, April 15 at Juarez High School, located at 2150 S. Laflin St., to discuss the status of bargaining, including efforts to win language that addresses accommodations for medically vulnerable families or those with acute child care issues, modified high school schedules and remote work that minimize the possibility of virus transmission, and vaccination programs for high school students and their family members.
Significant progress was made at the bargaining table late Wednesday night. The Union and the Chicago Public Schools bargaining teams will continue negotiations on Thursday.
Juarez teachers will set up for virtual learning with students remotely from outside — rather than inside — the facility, in a second day of job actions among high school educators to work remotely to press for more progress at the table.
COVID continues to surface in elementary schools like Armstrong Elementary, where more than two dozen are in quarantine. At Taft high school on Tuesday, students lined up for hours to access the building for SAT testing, raising concerns about maintaining safety and social distancing in crowded high schools with thousands of youth in attendance.
