Lewis issues statement after candidates, supporters invoke Karen’s legacy to bolster support, saying they have no right to use her name for political games.

CHICAGO, November 10, 2022 — John “Coach” Lewis, husband of late CTU President Emerita Karen GJ Lewis, issued the following statement today in response to references to President Lewis by candidates for mayor of Chicago and their supporters.

“I’m sad to see the memory of my Karen being used the way it’s being used today. None of them are her family, and they have no right to use her name for their political games.

“I support my family. I love my union. Brandon [Johnson] is my family and my union son.”
