Nothing changes in Chicago Public Schools, which has a mask mandate and other mitigation in place because of our union’s demand for safety.
Our January 2022 safety agreement with the district was reached independently, ratified at an open Chicago Board of Education meeting, and is legally binding and unaffected by the court’s decision.
This means the agreement that rank-and-file Union educators fought for, and sacrificed four days of pay for, will continue to protect our school communities. Masks will remain in all CPS schools, which research and national polling both show is essential mitigation that the majority of parents and families support.
The Chicago Teachers Union will continue to fight for safety and the right to recovery for all of our students and school communities.
