Mayor has yet to accept offers from Gov. Pritzker to provide SHIELD tests to CPS in wake of holiday testing fiasco, as parents, electeds urge mayor to pause in-person instruction, implement critical mitigations, address massive vaccination gap among Black and Latinx children.

CHICAGO, Jan. 7, 2022 — Chicago Teachers Union bargaining team members will host a press conference at 1:00 p.m. today at CTU headquarters, 1901 W. Carroll Ave., to discuss the Union’s latest proposal to the mayor’s CPS team. That comprehensive proposal addresses all outstanding issues between the CTU and the mayor, would end Lightfoot’s lock-out, and land hard safety protections for students and staff for the rest of the school year.

The Chicago Teachers Union represents more than 25,000 teachers and educational support personnel working in Chicago Public Schools, and by extension, the nearly 400,000 students and families they serve. The CTU is an affiliate of the American Federation of Teachers and the Illinois Federation of Teachers and is the third-largest teachers local in the United States.
