- 4PM TODAY, Thurs., June 13: press conference
CTU Center, 1901 W. Carroll Ave., Chicago
CPS reverses position, agrees to bargain today, as contract expiration date looms. CTU bargaining team will hold press conference at 4PM today as both teams bargain.
CHICAGO—In a curious turn of events, the mayoral controlled Chicago Public Schools has reversed its position to cancel a planned Thursday negotiating session for a new contract with 25,000 members of the CTU. CTU members welcomed the reversal.
The 40 person CTU bargaining team will hold a press conference at 4PM TODAY, Thursday, June 13 at CTU headquarters at 1901 W. Carroll Ave., to report from the table, outline concerns about the lack of progress in bargaining to date, and demand meaningful progress at the bargaining table. Both bargaining teams will be in the building.
The clock is ticking. The CTU’s contract with CPS expires on June 30.
At today’s press conference, bargaining team members will discuss sticking points at the table and challenge the mayor and her newly appointed board to address demands designed to create real equity in Chicago’s public schools.
Mayor Lori Lightfoot successfully ran on a platform of real education equity in Chicago public schools, but bargaining demands that would enshrine this equity in the union’s contract with CPS have been unilaterally rejected by her negotiating team.
