CTU President Stacy Davis Gates visits Nicholson STEM Academy to uplift the plight still being faced by unhoused families throughout the city
CHICAGO—With Friday marking an end to Chicago’s first week back at school, Chicago Teachers Union President Stacy Davis Gates will make her final Back-To-School tour stop at Nicholson STEM Academy, located in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood. Utilizing technology to enhance the educational experiences for students and their families, Nicholson services a high number of students in temporary living situations.
In the 2019 contract, union educators secured desperately needed resources and staffing to ensure that unhoused students and their families got the necessary support for students to dream and achieve those dreams in the classroom setting. During the press conference and visit to the school, Davis Gates, union educators and community members will discuss those supports.
As the Extreme Heat Watch continues to wreak havoc on Chicago, Davis Gates will update parents, guardians and families about the Union’s push to ensure safe and welcoming classrooms and school buildings for all students.
