CTU has settled a grievance over class size violations at ASPIRA that includes awards of over $61,000 to 11 members at ASPIRA Business and Finance (ABF). The note taking in negotiations of ABF teacher Katie Schmidt proved to be decisive in landing the settlement. The victory will send a message of the union’s commitment to reasonable class size for all students and teachers.
CTU is in preliminary discussions with CICS and Epic Academy about a reopening in the Fall. But we also have discussed the possibility of some educators voluntarily returning a few times this Spring to work with students experiencing difficulties. Any return will have to be negotiated with the Union.
We are in negotiations for reopening at Acero in the fourth quarter. The Union has stressed the importance of equity in education as well as safety. The current Memorandum of Understanding for remote learning expires April 19.
