Dec 15: Bilingual Ed/ESL Teacher Endorsement Cohort Winter 2024
As a result of our 2019 contract win, CPS offers reduced tuition opportunities with partner universities, usually once a year. We know that given the influx of newcomers in our schools, the need for bilingual/ESL endorsed teachers is urgent. As a result, we have worked with CPS and urged them to open an additional cohort. If you are interested please attend one of the informational sessions detailed here or reach out to the university contact for additional information. Applications are due Dec. 15 at 5 p.m.

Dec. 18: Bilingual education ALL-member Meeting
Do you have bilingual education students in your classroom? Join us to review the contract proposals that the CTU Bilingual Committee has brainstormed. Open to Bilingual/ESL certified teachers AND teachers who may not be Bilingual/ESL certified but work with students who are bilingual. We also want to hear from teachers who have languages other than Spanish in their classroom. We know our bilingual students speak many different languages and we want to make sure your voice is heard! What did we get right? What’s missing? We need your input! Jan. 19: Deadline for IEP Interpreter Stipend
Today, principals will receive the IEP interpreter stipend google form from CPS Labor Relations to submit IEP interpreter names for the first semester of the 2023 – 2024 school year. If you are a CTU member who has completed all components of the IEP interpreter training and have interpreted three or more IEPs during the first and second semester of this school year, ask your principal to submit your name on the IEP interpreter stipend form. The deadline for name submissions is Jan. 19.  Multiple CTU members from one school can have their names submitted if they have done the IEP interpreter work outlined above.

If you have not received a past IEP interpreter stipend, elementary teachers should reach out to laborrelationses@cps.edu and high school teachers should reach out to: laborrelationshs@cps.edu.  You can also reach out to lindaperales@ctulocal1.org.
