What We’re Fighting For

On April 16, 2024, we presented our formal contract proposals to the Chicago Public Schools and called on business and civic leaders who have traditionally opposed our platform to work with us to secure the funding we need to transform our public schools for every student, in every school and every neighborhood.

Our proposals would create a better school day for every student in CPS, reversing the structural inequities that have left our Black and Brown schools struggling even to provide the basics. We want to bring joy back to our classrooms and create a better school day for all students.

Use Your Teacher Voice

Every voice matters—including yours. No-one can tell your story or your school’s story like you can. Send the CTU a brief (15-30 second) video about what your classroom and school needs, and what your students could achieve if those needs were met. We’re composing an anthem—and every voice lifted and singing this tune amplifies our mighty chorus.

Layoff Rights

Despite inadequate staffing and large class sizes, CPS continues to disrespect educators with layoffs that hurt our members, our students and our schools. Thanks to our contract, CPS is required to follow some rules when they make these layoffs and laid off teachers have rights.
