Campaign: Early Childhood PSRP Staffing
CPS has been forced to increase the numbers of clinicians in our buildings, thanks to organizing by CTU members, parents and community allies.
Due to diligent organizing and coalition building by our rank and file members, with special education educators and clinicians in the lead, and in alliance with parents and community allies, CPS has been forced to increase the numbers of clinicians in our buildings.
Without our members’ organizing work, there would be no ISBE takeover of special education in CPS. There would be no additional social worker or case manager positions promised. But the needs of our students far exceed the levels of clinician staffing that currently exist.
We’re concerned that hiring of new clinician and special education staffers has fallen short of both the promises and our students’ needs. We are prepared to support any school community that has been promised an additional social worker or case manager, and there has been no hire made.
