PSRP Corner: PSRPs, use your voice, because when you stand up and speak out, we win
We’ve been demanding that Mayor Lightfoot staff up our schools since before the pandemic, but those demands are even more critical today. PSRPs, step up and use your voice. Because when you speak out, we win.
LSCs and school safety
Strength in numbers is at the heart of solidarity, and your school’s Local School Council (LSC) provides you with a unique opportunity to work in solidarity with parent and community reps, especially around the safe reopening of schools.
LSCs have power. Use it!
Local School Councils (LSCs) are a creature of state law, with authority and duties spelled out in state statute. Over the years, CPS has weakened that authority, but the school-based councils still have important powers within the school. The CTU presents some ways to use LSCs to improve conditions for educators and their students.
My students need more mental health supports
It’s long past time Mayor Lightfoot to acknowledge these are not “normal” times. Our students need more mental health services. It’s time to face facts — ignoring the pandemic will cost much more in the long run.
Good news from the Grievance Department
Our Union doesn’t rely solely on the legal process to defend our members’ rights. It is too slow, cumbersome and stacked in the boss’ favor. But it is one of the tools in our toolbox to enforce our contract and hold the district accountable.
Making history: ERSB is now law — and work remains!
On July 29, Illinois Governor J.B. Prizker signed HB 2908, the historic bill that creates an elected school board for Chicago. That signature, the culmination of 15 years of struggle and sacrifice by thousands of Chicago educators, parents and community activists, will bring real democracy to the governance of CPS for the first time in the city’s history.

President’s message: You don’t deserve this school year
Chicago educators are back to the schools and students we love, once again under very challenging circumstances. But CTU president Jesse Sharkey says it isn’t the school year they deserve.
